In July of 2017 LASS, in partnership with SD83, developed a 3 week summer school reading program aimed at improving students’ literacy skills by providing them with targeted support. The program was aligned with current research that highlights the critical importance of continuing reading instruction throughout the summer. The Summer Slide program provided primary students from the Salmon Arm area with enriched educational experiences during a time when they were not receiving formal schooling.
Sumer Slide programming expanded to Armstrong in 2018, Sicamous in 2019 and Enderby in 2021.
Students are invited to attend this program by the Learning Resource Teacher in their school.
